Mawiage...

Welcome to the Kyle & Kris Get Mallied blog.

Over the coming weeks and months we will be posting bits of nostalgia and helpful information to help make our wedding day - July, 11, 2009 - special.

Woodland Beach is near to our hearts, as both our families have grown up cottaging on it's summertime shores.

As children we spent many summers just 10 minutes down the beach from one another. However, it wasn't until we were adults and living in the city that we met. We discovered this coincidence on our first date and have been vacationing in Woodland together ever since.

We hope that you can join us on our wedding day and that some of you will have the opportunity to stay for a few days, or even a week. Please visit this site often, as we will be updating it on a regular basis.

Motel Accommodations in the Wasaga Area

Here are some links to motels in Wasaga that looked good to us. (click on the name of the Motel for info.) All accommodations are a 10 to 15 min cab ride to the reception.

Pls be forewarned, due to Wasaga being a very popular vacation site in the summer months, most of the motel/resorts will only rent rooms for a minimum of 2 nights or even a week. (I think the Dyconia is the only place that you can rent for 1 night)

More Wasaga Motels...

I've been hearing back from people that a lot of the motels/cabins we've posted will only rent to people for a 2 night minimum, so I thought we should add a link to the Wasaga beach Tourism site.

Here it is...WASAGA MOTELS

If you scroll down, it lists out ALL of the Motels in the area.
Hopefully there will be some on here that will rent out a room for 1 night only.
Pls let us know if you have any luck with any of these places.

Cottage and Cabin Rentals - ON THE BEACH

Below are photo's and phone numbers for cottages and cabins we came across along Tiny Beaches Road. All of these are a 5-10 minute walk from the ceremony and reception and are located right on the water. We would assume that the majority of these will be week long rentals...
(the cabins called "beachfront cottages" just below may rent for 2 nights - we're not sure)

CABINS -
These cabins are right across the street from the ceremony.

Cottage and Cabin Rentals - ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE BEACH

Below are photo's and phone numbers for cottages and cabins we came across along the opposite side of the street or on 1 street away from the beach (ie. not waterfront). Even though these aren't right on the water, there are several paths you can take to access the beach quite easily - you'll just need to carry your chairs/coolers, etc with you.

One final one...
We didn't take a photo of this one, but found it online...A-FRAME COTTAGE

Accomodations in the Bluewater and Balm Beach Areas

Darren (Kyle's cousin/best man) & Emily (his girlfirend) just let us know that there is another room available in the B&B that they are staying at...its closer to Balm Beach, which is the next beach around the coast from Woodland - only about 8km away.

It's called the Wymbolwood...here's the link if you are interested:

WYMBOLWOOD

I just did some additional research to see if there are other B&B's/Cottages available in the Bluewater and Balm Beach Areas. Here are a couple of links...

The Ceremony

The ceremony is planned to start at 4:00pm in the afternoon. We've chosen a wooded area overlooking the beach, just down the street from where we used to get ice cream as kids, called "Woodland Beach Park". Here's a couple of photo's of it...This will be a standing ceremony- with only a few chairs provided for our immediate family and some elderly guests.
There's a parking lot right beside it, or you can choose to park next to the reception venue which is just a 2 minute walk up the street.

The Reception

The reception will be held at The Bayshore Seniors Club (2000 Tiny Beaches Road), just a 2 minute walk up the street from the ceremony at Woodland Beach Park.

This is a special place for Kyle and his family. As a child, Kyle along with his sister Susan, and their cousins Tara, Darren and Leanne would play children's bingo there on summer afternoons to pass the time...and win some free candy! His grandparents Ralph and Laurette Yearsley were also members there.

Funny enough, Kristen's grandparents used to try to get her and her brother Kyle to go up there to play bingo too, but being the non-joiners that they were, they would always refuse to go.

We sometimes wonder if we would have met as children if Kristen and her brother would have gone to play too...

INTERESTING INFO -
In doing some research on the venue we found out that the Seniors Hall actually used to be a dance hall from the 1930's thru to the 1960's.
We found this great book online thats gives a brief history of it.

Scroll to pages 91-92 of this link...LETS DANCE

The Setting

As most of you know, our families have been going up to Woodland Beach for the past 40+ years. Our grandparents both owned places up there until we were in our 20's. We've been renting a place every July since those cottages were sold.

Here are some photo's to give you an idea of just how beautiful the beach is...

Invitations

Just got the final proof for the invites...here it is!

Where is Woodland Beach anyway?

It's about an hour and 45 minute drive north of Toronto on HWY400.
Here's a google map to show you the actual location...

"Mallied?" No, its not a typo...

In case you were wondering where the title of our blog came from...
(a classic scene from one of our favourite movies - "sixteen candles")

WE'RE REGISTERED!

Since there are a couple of family showers coming up, Kyle and I have decided to register for some household items.

We've chosen "Crate & Barrel" for our everyday china, flatware and bedding.
And "The Bay" for towels, kitchen gadgets, and small appliances.

Crate & Barrel only has 1 location - Yorkdale Mall (401 & Allen Road)
The registry is not online, so you need to visit the store or call there.
http://www.crateandbarrel.ca/

The Bay registry is accessible online.

**Pls note we prefer to use this registry for shower gifts only.
For wedding gifts, we would prefer cash gifts, as we are saving up to buy ourselves a house in the next year or so!
